Talk to the designer
My artistic style has been profoundly shaped by the cultural background of my upbringing. My mother, a native of Shanghai, was my first art mentor. From an early age, she encouraged me to freely express my thoughts and ideas through art. Our home was adorned with my impromptu wall doodles. Meanwhile, my father often took me back to his hometown in Shandong during vacations. There, I experienced a different way of life: collecting shells by the endless sea or picking fresh fruits from our family’s fields. These vibrant memories of nature under the bright sun—colorful rural landscapes and shimmering seas—have deeply influenced my color palette.
Later, I was fortunate to study at the Edinburgh College of Art and spent over seven years living in the UK. The rich diversity of European culture and its deep-rooted artistic atmosphere gradually found their way into my work. Today, I enjoy using dynamic, expressive lines paired with vivid, solid colors to convey a sense of spontaneity and motion that transcends the constraints of two-dimensional space. This approach allows my work to balance decorative appeal with clarity and trustworthiness in visual communication. I also strive for my style to maintain its sustainability and uniqueness, aligning with the growth of the brands I collaborate with.

I love sharing Joejoe’s daily life—even creating a social media account for him! Four years ago, when I first decided to adopt Joejoe, I was in a career slump and feeling overwhelmed about my future. I needed something tangible to help me through that challenging time. That’s when Joejoe came into my life. He has an incredible healing energy and stayed by my side through everything, helping me overcome anxiety and inspiring my creativity. Many of my artworks and ideas have stemmed from moments I captured while traveling with him.

When I received KAMA MUTA’s invitation, I had been back in China for less than a month, and Joejoe had just returned around the same time. Bringing a pet back to China involves a complex process. Joejoe had to endure 37 days of quarantine in the UK and transit through three countries before finally arriving in Shanghai. The moment I reunited with him was filled with excitement but also a sense of guilt for what he had gone through.
When the opportunity to collaborate on pet products arose, I felt it was the perfect way to make amends to Joejoe. It allowed me to design loving and fun products for pets while working alongside KAMA MUTA—a young and experienced team passionate about pets. It felt like a dream collaboration.

Inspired by the brand story, I imagined KAMA as a brave little dog explorer and MUTA as an elegant cat connoisseur of life. These characters reflect the shared traits of pets and humans, and I incorporated them into the visuals. Using dynamic lines and color blocks, I depicted scenes of shared living between humans and pets.
The design elements in these scenes are intentionally versatile. By deconstructing and rearranging them, the visuals can be extended and adapted for various applications. This approach ensures that KAMA MUTA, a brand that balances aesthetics, practicality, and sustainability, can not only captivate through its primary visual identity but also integrate its design elements into everyday life for broader resonance.

I’ve always loved being close to nature and admire the relaxed ease of animals in their natural habitats. When it comes to pets, we often perceive ourselves as caretakers, providing them with everything they need. However, I believe it’s the other way around: our pets nurture us emotionally with their pure, simple, and unpretentious nature.
Through their wagging tails or sincere snuggles, pets remind us of innocence and authenticity. In my view, humans, pets, and nature should coexist harmoniously, supporting and loving one another as mutual sanctuaries of warmth and comfort.
